The Batavia Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning accident on state Route 48 June 4 that sent a local teen to the hospital.

According to a press release James Hatfield, 18, of Goshen was northbound on S.R. 48 when he lost control just south of state Route 28. The 1992 Honda hatchback he was driving slid off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, then side-swiped a house.

Hatfield was transported to Bethesda North Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. His passengers, Charlie Brooks, 18, of Goshen and Brandon Alexander, 18, of Goshen, refused treatment at the scene.

Neither Hatfield nor his passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The State Highway Patrol has said alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both are believed to be a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
