The Village Association of Batavia has presented its April Property Improvement Award to local cabinet maker Ted Ramos for the extensive remodel of the home at 500 North Riverside Drive.
Ramos bought the home with his son Gabriel Ramos who was deployed to Iraq and wanted a project to invest in while he was overseas.
“My son and I bought it out of foreclosure,” Ramos said.
Ted worked on the home with his wife Melinda and replaced all of the plumbing, wiring, windows, doors, and heating system while adding a master bedroom and raising the roof to add a larger kitchen. A wrap-around deck was also added.
Now a Sergeant, Gabriel Ramos has been deployed to Afghanistan and work on the now four bedroom, three bath home is near completion and is now on the market.
VAOB member Barb Carney said the Ramos' family's dedicated effort to improving the appearance of the village is noteworthy.
"The hope is that when one neighbor fixes up his property, it makes his neighbors conscious of their property and the process continues," Carney said.
