Local luminaries turned out in great numbers for the first Dancing with the Stars Extravaganza, held March 4 at the Eastgate Holiday Inn.
“It went so well, we had a terrific turnout,” Sharon Woodrow, Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities superintendent said. “It was just great having all the Clermont County people participate.”
Clerco, Inc. which provides meaningful and paid employment for individuals with developmental disabilities through its partnership with the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities, presented the event as a fund-raiser and to raise awareness about the board’s services.
Clermont County Auditor Linda Fraley and her dance partner Jeff Diesel, who danced the Cha Cha, won the dance contest and the coveted mirror ball trophy.
Other dance teams were Clermont County Sheriff A.J. "Tim" Rodenberg and his dance partner Sarah Negley, Lamonica and Evan Friedman, Karen Scherra and David Horn, Jim Carter and Berta Velilla, Tim and Laurel Vogel, CCDD Superintendent Sharon Woodrow with her grandson Christopher Lachat, Tom Dirr and Jessica Petre, Kate and Bill Hawkins, Bill and Donna Dowdney, and Carl and Barb Hartman.
"All of the dancers have some connection to people with disabilities," Woodrow said. "They all give very generously of their time, this was just the icing on the cake."
The three celebrity judges at the event were Kathy Lehr, communications director for Clermont County; Jeff Bill, owner of the Dance Club in Withamsville; and Anne Erwin, the director of dance at the West Clermont Institute of Performing Arts at Glen Este High School.
Woodrow said that if 12 couples can be found to dance next year, there will be a second annual Dancing with the Stars Extravaganza.
