Bethel-Tate and Milford are the county’s only basketball sectional tournament winners

Bethel-Tate’s Tigers, the undefeated champions of the Southern Buckeye Conference American Division, have turned in the best performance for the county varsity male cagers.

The Red and Gray put a finish to Finneytown’s Wildcats 68-63 at Mason. The Clermont countians were in command all the way 18-11, 34-33, and 52-47 in this Division II duel.

Bethel’s three big men under the basket provided the offensive power for the winners – junior forward Tyler Bullock made 20 points, senior forward Louie Schaljo made 19, and senior forward Spencer Sutter made 13.

Milford was also a victor massacring Mt. Healthy's Owls 64-33 at Lakota West High School in Division I. The Eagles were in control throughout 16-6, 24-10, and 47-26.

Scoring in double digits for the Clermont countians were junior guard Callan Hughes and sophomore forward Robert Overbeck with 11 points each and senior forward Alex Cummings with 10.


Bethel-Tate and Milford's girls won their sectional tournament opening games.

Bethel-Tate tackled Goshen 52-47 in the Division II sectional at Withrow High School. The Tigers held sway all the way 14-7, 26-18, and 39-38. Senior guard Emily Vanderpool led the winners' scoring with 18 points. Sophomore guard Allie Jeandrevin netted 14 points and senior forward Kelly Tucker 13 for the Warriors.

Milford won in Division I 52-51 over Western Brown at Kings. The E-Gals trailed 9-8 after the first quarter, but took over at the other intermissions 29-21 and 41-35.

Senior forward Chelsea Gilman made 14 points and sophomore guard Morgan Wolcott 11 for the victors.

Glen Este was eliminated by Little Miami 43-28 in Division I. The Panthers pulled away from a 10-both first period deadlock to leads of 19-14 and 34-18.

Junior guard Lakin Louiso's nine points paced the Purple and White offense.

Amelia was ousted in Division I by Lakota West 75-45. The Firebirds led at each rest 16-14, 35-24, and 48-38.

Senior forward Morgan Sperry's 20 points led the Barons' offense.

In Division III at Wilmington College, Badin buried Batavia 60-18 as the Rams were in control throughout 15-3, 39-10, and 53-11.

Senior guard Samantha Ison's six points led the Bulldogs' scoring.

In Division III at Wilmington, Clermont Northeastern was clobbered by Madison 66-26. The Mohawks were on top at each stop 21-9, 36-10, and 55-16.

Senior forward Chelsey Chesser's nine points paced the Rockets.

Division II play at Withrow saw New Richmond lose to Indian Hill 62-36. The Braves were in the forefront all the way 26-5, 38-10, and 54-23.

Junior center/forward Reno Frayne's 15 points powered the Lions' resistance.

In Division I at Kings, Milford was eliminated 51-39 by McAuley's Mohawks. The E-Gals were behind 11-7 after the first frame and led 22-19 at the half before dropping behind again 39-27 going into the final stanza.

Wolcott netted 14 points and sophomore forward Kelly Yee added 10 for the Red and White.

Bethel-Tate was put out by Finneytown 64-48 in Division II action at Withrow. The Wildcats were in front at each halt 15-6, 31-18, and 46-38.

Sophomore guard Caroline Baker dropped in 11 points and junior center Brooke Kenneda added an additional 10 points for the Red and Gray.
