The Kmart store located on State Route 28 in Milford will be permanently closed on May 31, 2010 according to a letter sent from Kmart Corporation to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services on Feb. 3.

Margie Lynch, divisional vice president for Kmart said that the expected date of the first separation was expected April 6 and would involve pharmacy employees, however, the pharmacy at the store has already ceased to operate.

“The remaining terminations are expected to occur during a 14-day period beginning on May 17,” said Lynch.

The Milford store is one of six Kmarts closing across the state. Other stores include Eastlake with 72 employees, Wadsworth with 56 employees, Cleveland with 74 employees and Dayton with 66 employees.

The Department of Job and Family Services receives notification 60 days in advance of plant closing and mass layoffs. This notification allows workers affected by the layoff to begin searching for employment or plan for additional training, if needed, to obtain work.
