Potter “Curly” Whitaker, 79, of Pierce Township, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010. He was born Oct. 1, 1930 the son of Granville and Laura Whittaker.

Mr. Whitaker served in the U. S. Navy on the U.S.S. Chipola. He worked for a time as a roofer, then a machinist at Lockwood and retired from Industrial Air in Amelia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Brunk Miller Whitaker; one daughter, Luella Boggs; one brother, Carson Whittaker and one sister, Castle Patterson.

He is survived by five children, Esther Henderson, Joyce Davis, JoAnn Beach, Joe Brunk and Susan Moore; 32 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Whittaker and one nephew, Jerry (Joyce) Patterson.

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia. Funeral services will follow the visitation.

Interment at Pierce Township Cemetery.
