With the financing in place for the Industrial Realty Group to begin renovation of the former Ford Transmission plant in Batavia, township trustees are concerned about the zoning regulations for the project.

An overlay district was discussed by trustees during the Batavia Township meeting on Thursday, Oct. 29.

According to zoning administrator Denise Kelley, the township has not had contact with anyone from IRG regarding the plans for the 1.8 million square foot facility.

“They would have to come to the board of zoning appeals for approval before they can begin any work,” said Kelley. “If the plant becomes an overlay district, IRG would have to come before the board of trustees with their plans.”
