Origins of the Christmas tree

With all the hoopla lately about calling Christmas trees – holiday trees, I was curious about just how the custom of Christmas trees began.

Homeless animals benefit from local citizens generosity

The Nov. 7 Clermont County Humane Society fund-raiser was held at the Norlyn Manor in Batavia Township; the silent and live auctions featured over 300 items including original artwork, deluxe vacation accommodations, and Cincinnati Bengals signed items.

Easements can help keep Clermont green

More people are calling Clermont County home. Since 2000, the county has experienced a 10 percent increase in population, growing from an estimated 177,977 to 195,385 residents today. In a recent land use planning survey, Clermont County citizens indicated a desire to balance future growth and development while protecting specific land uses, such as open space.

Fraley receives continuing education award

Clermont County Auditor Linda Fraley is a recipient of the “Distinguished County Auditor” award, presented by the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio (CAAO). The award recognizes County Auditors who have completed 100 or more hours of continuing education during their term of office. Fraley was recognized and received the award from CAAO President Doug Green, Brown County Auditor, during the CAAO Winter Conference on Nov. 17.

Martin named Dispatcher of the Year

Ohio State Highway Patrol Dispatcher Rebel Martin has been selected for the 2009 Ohio State Highway Patrol Telecommunications Award at the Batavia Communications Center. Maria Ramon, 82

Maria J. Torres Ramon, 82, of Milford, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 in Miami Township. Ramon worked as a salesperson in retail sales. Funeral services were held Nov. 18 at Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

David Bronner, 34

David Keith Bronner, 34, of Pleasant Plain in Harlan Township, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at his residence. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Joan Green, 44

Joan L. “Joni” Wood Green, 44, of Fayetteville, died suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2009. Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at Evans Funeral Home in Goshen.

Jordan Fuhrman, 15

Jordan Anthony Fuhrman, 15, of Milford, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Cincinnati. He was a student. A memorial service was held Nov. 21 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Milford.

Cecil Purcell, 82

Cecil M. Purcell, 82, formerly of Bethel, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. He was born Feb. 15, 1927. Funeral services were held Nov. 16 at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home in Bethel. Interment at Tate Township Cemetery in Bethel.
