An area Marine was one of 11 U. S. troops killed in the helicopter crashes in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Monday, Oct. 26.

Marine Corps Captain David Seth Mitchell, 30, of Loveland, was assigned to the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force based out of Camp Pendleton, Calif. The helicopter that Mitchell was in killed three other Marines while they were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mitchell graduated from Loveland High School in 1997. He was a 2001 graduate of Virginia Tech and joined the Marine Corps in 2001. His parents live in North Carolina.
