A 1 percent earned income tax is being considered by officials in the village of New Richmond. On Sept. 23, the New Richmond Village Council held a special meeting to explain the need for the tax and answer questions from the public about the tax.

During the meeting, those in attendance heard some basic information about the village finances. Services and funding of capital projects was explained and the need for additional funding was made clear.

Village Administrator Dave Kennedy noted that the total general fund sources of income for 2009 totaled $577,500. General fund expenses for 2009 were figured at $555,600. Although there was enough money in the fund to cover expenses in 2009, those figures were expected to change in 2010.
