Two arrested in murder for hire plot
Two Clermont County residents were arrested on Thursday, Aug. 27 in connection with a “Murder for Hire” scheme. According to Clermont County Sheriff A. J. “Tim” Rodenberg, Michael Gray, 33 of Loveland and Mary Woodrey, 50, of Loveland, had made arrangements to eliminate a 7-year-old victim of a sexual assault which took place in Clermont County in May 2008.
Ballot issues certified for November election
The Clermont County Board of Elections held a special meeting to certify issues for the upcoming November general election. One state issue will be on the ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 3. A casino initiative will ask voters to approve an amendment to the Ohio constitution to authorize a single casino within each of the cities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo.
Stimulus money improves Clermont roadways
A number of road projects in Clermont County are utilizing funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to Clermont County Engineer Patrick Manger. The projects are estimated to cost $2,464,600, the maximum provided by the Federal Highway Administration.
Milford High principal dies suddenly
Milford High School Principal Ray Bauer, 63, of Mason, collapsed after exercising and died Saturday, Aug. 29. According to superintendent Robert Farrell, the high school assistant principals were busy on Sunday, Aug. 30, contacting each member of the faculty to notify them of his death. The high school staff members met at the school on Sunday evening to make plans for Monday.
Dale remembered with memorial celebration
A large number of family, friends and former co-workers of Lois Brown Dale had an opportunity to share their memories of one of Clermont County’s trail blazers during a memorial celebration of her life on what would have been her 92nd birthday, Thursday, Aug. 27. The celebration was held in the Lois Brown Dale Friendship Center which was named in her honor.
Batavia food pantry offers help
The Inter Parish Ministry has been helping families throughout Clermont County with emergency food, clothing and assistance programs for more than 40 years. The group was started when four churches from three denominations saw a need and developed a pantry in Newtown.
