Mountaintop mining talk to be held

September 25th, 2009    Author: Staff Report    Filed Under: Community

Moutaintop Removal is a radical form of coal mining in which the entire top of a mountain is literally blown off, devastating communities throughout Appalachia, polluting drinking water and destroying rivers.

A significant percentage of our local electricity comes from such mining operations and many additional mountaintop removal mines are currently being applied for.

Father John Rausch will speak on this topic at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at St. George Church Hall, 509 East State Street in Georgetown, Ohio.

Father Rausch, a member of the Glenmary Missioners, is a nationally recognized speaker on moutaintop removal.
