A Clermont County man was killed during an attack in Afghanistan Wednesday, July 8. United States Army Specialist Gregory James Missman, 36, had been serving in the 4th Infantry Division, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 704th Brigade Support Battalion in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, since early June. The brigade is based at Fort Carson, in Colorado.

He died of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit using small arms fire. He had formerly served in the military and just reenlisted in 2008. This was his first tour of duty to the Middle East. He is the first Clermont County resident to die in action in Afghanistan.

“The thoughts and prayers of the people in Clermont County go out to the family,” said Clermont County Commissioner Bob Proud. “We will never let his service and sacrifice be forgotten.”
