Union Township will have no problem finding road salt this year due to the efforts of township administrator David Duckworth. During the township meeting Tuesday, June 9, he made a recommendation to the board to accept a bid submitted by the Cargill Company.

“Through our participation in the southwest Ohio purchases from government, which is a pooled program in southwest Ohio, we have been able to lock in a rate of $59.40 per ton for road salt,” said Duckworth. “We have on order 2,000 tons with an option for an additional 4,000. Last year we scrambled to find salt and had to pay a premium. This is a very good rate.”

He expected to have a purchase order for the board to approve at the next meeting.
