The Vietnam Veterans of America Clermont Chapter 649 is preparing a memorial to be placed in Veterans Park in Union Township. The memorial is a tribute to the sacrifice made by mothers of those who have either died in combat and those wounded who died as a result of their wounds or disease from war.

During the days of World War I, a blue star flag was used to represent each person, man or woman, in military service of the United States. As the war progressed and military personnel were killed, the blue star was substituted or superimposed with a gold star to completely cover the blue star.
