The spirit of the United States of America was on display Monday in Milford.   Hundreds turned out as Post 450 of the American Legion held its annual Memorial Day Parade.

Things were festive along the parade route before it began, with young children playing while their parents enjoyed the day with friends and neighbors. But as the fire trucks at the beginning of the parade approached, the crowd grew silent as they anticipated the color guard bearing the flag.

Aging veterans struggled from their lawn chairs, preparing to salute as Old Glory marched past. When the flag finally appeared, hands young and old covered hearts and salutes were raised to honor the fallen.
