Cancer survivors from the area will be walking in the first lap of the Relay for Life scheduled to begin 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Milford High School.

Survivor Brenda Carter will be among those walking and she is also the captain of her team.

“When I was asked if I would be a team captain I told them only if I could get at least eight people who work at the board office to be on my team,” said Carter. “I ended up with 22 people on my team from not only the board office, but also those who work at Kohl’s with me. Our team right now is in first place. We had set a goal of $2,000 and we are at $5,300. The team has done an excellent job. It is amazing how everybody has pitched in and part of the motivation behind the team is that, I am a survivor. It is hard if you try to do something as an individual, but together we can do so much more. You can make a statement with a group of people.”
