Is Older Americans Month something we really need?

On May 4 the White House issued a press release in which President Obama declared May Older Americans Month.

Obama has become the tenth President to perform this ritual, a tradition that traces its roots to President Kennedy declaring May as Senior Citizens Month in 1963. President Carter changed it to the more politically correct title of Older Americans Month in 1978.
