The Clermont County Board of Commissioners made a decision Feb. 25 to award a janitorial contract to Alpha and Omega Building Service, of Kettering, after terminating the contract with Scioto Services, of Cincinnati. The contract with Scioto Services was terminated for non-compliance and theft.

“The contract with Scioto Janitorial Services was terminated by the county because of Scioto’s non-compliance, their failure to meet the contract specifications and employee theft,” said Commissioner Scott Croswell. “Scioto Services acknowledged that they were non-compliant and that they had breached the contract. At that point we terminated the contract.”

Workers from Scioto Services and fellow Service Employees International Union Local 1 affiliates joined in a protest on the sidewalk in front of the administration building on Wednesday, April 15. They claimed that Clermont County government eliminated their jobs and hired from a poverty-wage contractor.
