It’s time to pray and put our hope in God

Next week our nation will celebrate the 58th annual National Day of Prayer. On Thursday, May 7, people in every state and county in the United States will gather in public places and on government property to ask God for his protection and blessing.

Batavia Township spring clean up days to be held May 1&2

Dumpsters will be available at the Batavia Township Service Department to receive items to be disposed of 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday, May 1 and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

Most county softball teams are triumphant

Eight of Clermont County’s 10 high school varsity fast pitch softball teams enjoyed victories in recent action. The Trojans won a Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division duel over Northwest’s Knights 10-1. Kierstin Gregory was the winning pitcher. The leading hitters for the Purple and White were Kaylin Steinmetz with two hits and two runs batted in (RBI) and Jensen Jeffries with two hits.

Batavia, New Richmond Lions post wins

Batavia and New Richmond’s squads have enjoyed the most success of late in Clermont County’s high school varsity baseball campaign. The Bulldogs beat Amelia 11-3 in a non-conference fray. Eric Roberts was the winning pitcher and helped himself by getting two hits. He was assisted by David Lenhardt’s three hits and two apiece from J. D. Little and Korey Eads.

B-T’s Schellenberger, ‘Burg’s Brown, and Felicity’s Smith set the pace at NR Invitational

The 39th Annual New Richmond Track and Field Invitational took place recently. Western Brown and Brossart (Ky.) high schools were the winners of the boys and girls divisions, respectively. The host Lions paced Clermont County’s teams in both divisions.

Ison qualifies for U.S. World Team Trials

Jacob Ison has qualified for the United States’ World Team Trials for Greco-Roman wrestling. The tournament will take place May 30 and 31 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Ison is a junior red-shirt member of the Ohio University wrestling team.

Amelia Comprehensive Plan to be updated

A comprehensive plan put together in 2000 by residents and council members is causing concerns in Amelia. Planning Commission spokesman David Woessner reported that several developers are interested in Amelia property but were concerned that a plan to develop the Village Parkway to alleviate traffic could later affect their plans.

Edward Bass, 76

Edward W. Bass, 76, died Friday, April 17, 2009. Funeral services were held April 22, at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home, in Amelia. Interment at Pierce Township Cemetery.

Kenneth Bassett, 78

Kenneth Burrett Bassett, 78, of Terrace Park, died Friday, April 17, 2009, in Terrace Park. Mr. Bassett was an attorney at law for Cors-Bassett. Funeral services were held April 22, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, in Terrace Park.

Mark Ventura, 40

Mark Ventura, 40, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Funeral services were held April 20, at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home, in Amelia.
