Schaljo and Hamlet among Cincy’s best

Louie Schaljo, Bethel-Tate junior guard-forward, and Jamie Hamlet, Glen Este senior guard, were leaders among Clermont County’s best in various end of the season varsity basketball statistics for Greater Cincinnati.

Batavia Invite prepared SBC matmen for late season

Eight Clermont County wrestlers won individual weight class championships in the annual Steve Shinkle Wrestling Invitational Tournament that took place at Batavia High School. Teamwise, the county did also did very well with Bethel-Tate just being nipped at the wire by Turpin; Batavia and Northeastern were among the top five squads of the 18-team tournament.

Milford Invite got many FAVC grapplers tourney ready

The 35th Annual Milford Invitational Wrestling Tournament was won by Princeton. Andrew Nealan and Brian Gelter of New Richmond were Clermont County’s individual weight class champions.

Milford scores in state swim championships

Milford’s boys swimming team dented the scoring column in the state championship meet that took place at the C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. The 200-yard freestyle relay recorded the points for Milford with its 15th place finish with a time of 1-minute, 29.45-seconds. The members of the quartet were freshman Beau Robinson, senior Joey Griffin, senior Matt D’Errico, and junior Eric Sanders.

UC Clermont women third in USCAA national championship tournament

The University of Cincinnati Clermont College women’s basketball team earned third place in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s (USCAA) National Championship Tournament. The tournament took place at Penn State University – Fayette which is located in the Pittsburgh area. The third place finish is the best that the Cougar women have ever achieved.

Township approves zoning for day care

The Union Township board of trustees approved a zoning amendment at its meeting March 10. Cory Wright, planning director and assistant zoning director, presented the board with a proposal from CUC to build a day care center at 4375 Ferguson Drive. The All About Kids Daycare planned development would be situated on 1.4 acres and hold 10 classrooms. The proposed center would be located next door to a pediatrician office.

Williamsburg to apply for stimulus funds for police

Williamsburg Police Department concerns were addressed when council met on Thursday, March 12. Mayor Mary Ann Lefker and Chief Michael Gregory reported that they will be submitting a request for an additional full-time police officer for the village through the federal stimulus package.

Milacron files Chapter 11, sold to investors

On March 10, Milacron Inc., based in Batavia, reached an agreement with Avenue Capital Group and DDJ Capital Management LLC for a financial restructuring of the company. Milacron employs 600 workers at the Batavia plant, 200 workers in Mt. Orab and 3,000 employees worldwide.

Batavia Township’s war memorial plans move forward

Plans are moving forward for a military war memorial in Batavia Township with a donated Humvee as the focal point. Batavia Township Trustees have been meeting with the Clermont County Military Memorial Committee to get the project underway.
