A fire which destroyed the Horn residence in Miami Township on Thursday, Feb. 5, has left the family of eight with nothing.
Two teenage boys were trapped in the second story bedroom when they made the call to 911. Matt Horn, 14, pushed his younger brother out of the window to save his life.
The single digit temperatures hampered fire departments in their attempt to stop the blaze and in the hour it took to contain the fire, the house collapsed. It took firefighters most of the night to get the fire completely out.
"The Horn family, barely able to make ends meet as it was, have lost everything," said Benjamin. "Nothing was salvagable. The family is seeking shelter with local family members. Anyone who would like to assist the family can call me."
