Due to the failure of the Bethel-Tate Local School District’s earned income tax issue on Election Day last week, financial cuts from the school district will now have to be considered at the Nov. 20 school board meeting.

Issue 22, which would have provided a continuing operational school earned income tax levy, failed despite the fact that it had marked the first time in 19 years that the school district had gone to the tax-payers for assistance.

Now, the school district will be forced to cut an annual $1 million from its operating budget, which will have a major impact on the school district, and especially on the students who rely on the excellent rated district, said Bethel-Tate Superintendent James Smith.
