Holly Hill Elementary School teacher Vera Edwards has been chosen to be the Sam’s Club 2008 Teacher of the Year.
Edwards, who has taught third-grade students at the school since it opened in 1982, received the award and a check during a surprise after-school assembly Oct. 9.
“I am very surprised, honored, and shocked,” Edwards said over deafening applause at the recognition ceremony. “I have taught for 32 years and this feels great – but my real reward has been working with these great and wonderful kids all of these years. Our kids here at the school are very special kids.”
