Milford runs away with FAVC-B cross country crowns; Bever and Thomas win individual laurels – Lions do well in SBC-A

Clermont County teams and individuals did well in their respective conference cross country championship races. Milford is the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division champion in both boys and girls cross country. The male Eagles scored 34 points, Anderson 48, Loveland 54, Glen Este 112, and Harrison 115. Winton Woods did not enter a full five-man team. Austin Bever of Milford was the individual champion with a time of 16 minutes, 12.30 seconds.

Girls volleyball and soccer are successful in tournament action; Amelia kickers pull off major upset – boys are kicked around

Clermont County’s varsity volleyball and boys and girls soccer teams are now competing in their respective sectional tournaments. The major highlight of the tournament for county teams, thus far, was Amelia’s upset victory over seeded and city-ranked Mount Notre Dame in girls soccer.

Goshen, Glen Este, ‘Burg win grid games; Lions lose SBC-A title game to Broncos

It was a bleak week for most of Clermont County’s high school varsity football teams. Only Glen Este, Goshen, and Williamsburg emerged victorious. It took the Trojans (5-4 overall, 2-2 Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye) an incredibly exciting overtime period, but they won out over host Harrison 31-30.

Batavia graduate performs with world class drum and bugle corps

Drum Corps International held its World Class Championships on the Indiana University at Bloomington campus the first weekend of August. Twenty Division I Drum & Bugle Corps gathered for the last time this season to go head-to-head in competition for the grand phantom regimentize…the gold medal. Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois emerged victorious, and by the narrowest margin in DCI history. They stood alone, for the first time in their 52-year old history as a corps.

Perry Jordan, 78

Perry Jordan, 78, died Oct. 16, 2008. Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at the Maham Funeral Home in Williamsburg.

Karen Dorothy Owens, 66

Karen Dorothy Owens, 66, of Milford, died Oct. 18, 2008. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

Cecil Fayer Conner, 77

Cecil Fayer Conner, 77, of Milford, died Oct. 10, 2008. He was a Korean War Navy veteran. Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

Rachel J. Duley, 72

Rachel J. Duley, 72, of Waynesville, formerly of Williamsburg, died Oct. 15, 2008. She worked at Medary’s. Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at the Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial followed at the Winchester Cemetery.

Herman Samuel DeAtley, 61

Herman Samuel DeAtley, 61, of Bethel, has died. Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Bethel. Interment followed at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
