Union Township man earned gold in men’s gymnastics in 1984

Following are the 14 Clermont Countians who were directly involved in the fierce competition to become a member of or were members of the United States Olympic teams.

Brown, Stanley – Brown was a swimming official in the 1976 and 1984 games.

Evans, Pat – A graduate of Glen Este High School. Evans was a platform and one-meter diver in the 1984 and 1988 trials.

Haefner, Randy – Haefner was the coach of the Great Britain men’s basketball team in the 1984 trials.

Holcomb, Mike – A graduate of Goshen High School. Holcomb was a heavyweight wrestler (finalist) in the 1984 trials.

Hummer, Mary Jo - Hummer was a diver in the 1984 games.

Jasontek, Becky - Jasontek was a silver medalist in synchronized swimming in the 2004 games.

Johnson, Scott - Johnson was a gold medalist as a member of the men's gymnastics team in the 1984 games.

Kimmerly, Mike - A graduate of Amelia High School. Kimmerly was a Greco-Roman wrestler in the 1996 trials.

Morgan, Andrea - A graduate of Amelia High School. Morgan was an 800-meters runner in the 2004 trials.

Steward, Greg - A graduate of Williamsburg High School. Steward competed in flatwater sprint kayak in the 1988 and 1992 games.

Stewart, Ken - A graduate of Batavia High School. Stewart was a track and field official in the 1988 games.

Sylvester, Mike - Sylvester, who possessed dual citizenship, was a member of the Italian men's basketball team and was the only United States citizen to earn a medal (silver) in the U. S. boycotted games that took place in Moscow in 1980.

Terrell, Jim - A graduate of Milford High School. Terrell competed in flatwater sprint kayak in the 1982, 1988, 1992, and 1996 games.

Wellerding, John - A graduate of Amelia High School. Wellerding was a marathon runner in the 1984 trials.
