Pets N Such in Amelia is going out of business and will close its doors for the last time Aug. 30.
In business for more than 20 years, Pets N Such owners Diane and Cameron Beaty struggled with the decision, but due to a “lagging” economy and competition from the larger retail stores, felt that the time was right to close.
“It’s a very sad day for us,” Diane Beaty said at the pet store Aug. 2. “My husband and I always wanted to own a business, and do something that was close to our hearts, so we chose pets.”
Diane and Cameron Beaty said that the decision to close the 6,000 square feet pet store was a very tough one to make because they have dedicated their lives to the business for the last 23 years.
"We have always loved animals," she said. "I would just like to thank the community for making the store so wonderful all these years - I will truly miss being able to help people with all of their pet needs and also finding good homes for dogs."
Mary Muldoon, a Pets N Such loyal customer for 10 years, said that she could not believe the news when she first heard about it.
"I hate it for the community," she said. "I could bring my dog in the store, it was close to home, and it was just a very convenient and friendly place to come."
The going out of business sale, which started last week, will run six weeks.
It is an everything must go sale, including animal bedding, dog bones, bird cages and toys, reptile bedding and lighting, bowls, collars, leashes, crates, aquarium supplies, fish food, pet toys, and food for all animals and reptiles.
Regina Gatts, who has worked at the store for years, said that losing the pet store is like losing a child, or in this case, a pet.
"We have had customers come in crying," Gatts said. "Because this is the end of something very special."
Pets N Such is located at 1258 West Ohio Pike in Amelia (next to Kroger). The closing sale will end Aug. 30.
