Hall, Erdman win Scott McDowell Memorial Run

The annual Scott McDowell Memorial River Run and Walk took place as part of the annual New Richmond River Days Celebration. The event honors the memory of an outstanding three-sport athlete who graduated New Richmond High School. The overall winners were New Richmond area residents Timmy Hall who crossed the finish line in 18-minutes and 55-seconds and Emily Erdman who clocked in at 22:30.

Hwa Chong, the first U. S. Olympic Tae Kwon Do coach, visits Clermont County

Earlier this month Clermont County was host to another former Olympian, Grand Master Hwa Chong. Chong attended the Eastgate Martial Arts Club’s 19th Promotional Testing. He took part by conducting and overseeing the testing. Chong, a native of Seoul, South Korea, was the United States’ first Olympic coach of Tae Kwon Do when the sport was first recognized as an Olympic sport for the 1992 games that took place in Barcelona, Spain.

CNE, Glen Este, and Milford girls are competing on links

Clermont County’s three varsity high school girls golf teams have begun their respective 2008 campaigns. The Trojans lost their season opener to Loveland’s Tigers 209-243 in Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division play that took place at Hickory Woods Golf Club.

Amelia wins First Eastside Golf Challenge

Amelia was the champion of the first Eastside Challenge Golf Tournament that took place at Friendly Meadows Golf Course. The season-opening tournament was formerly known as the old Clermont County League Tournament.

Amelia, Milford, New Richmond are county’s winners in first week of varsity football action

New Richmond, Milford, and Amelia were the only Clermont County varsity football winners for Week One of the gridiron campaign. All five of the county’s new head football coaches went without a win. New Richmond had little trouble in disposing of Deer Park 28-0. The Lions lead all the way with quarter scores of 7-0, 21-0, and 28-0.

James LeRoy Shinkle, 79

James LeRoy Shinkle, 79, of Milford, died Aug. 21, 2008. He was a carman at a railroad. Funeral services were held Aug. 23 at the Evans Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Miamiville.

Yvonne Pearl Applegate, 44

Yvonne Pearl Applegate, 44, of Milford, died Aug. 18, 2008. She was a nurse’s aide at the Abors of Milford Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

Curtiss Duane DeGarmo, 47

Curtiss Duane DeGarmo, 47, died Aug. 19, 2008. Funeral services were held Aug. 23 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia. Burial followed at the Maineville Cemetery.

Douglas Gurley, 68

Douglas Gurley, 68, died July 29, 2008. He was the president of Buckeye Painting and Striping Company and the E.A. Stevens Company. Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial followed at the Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Anthony Wayne Riedel, 56

Anthony Wayne Riedel, 56, of Bethel, died Aug. 23, 2008. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army for 36 years. Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Bethel.
