The winning lottery ticket that was sold in the village of Amelia recently was presented to lottery officials Friday by an attorney representing a client who wishes to remain anonymous.

The $196 million lottery ticket, sold May 16 at the Main Street Wine and Spirits store in Amelia, will pay the undisclosed winner 26 annual payments.

The first payout of $5.2 million, following almost $2.5 million in state and federal taxes, should be made within 30 days. The winner will then receive more than $7 million for the next 25 years.

Amelia mayor Leroy Ellington, who has no idea who the winner is, said that he was very pleased that such a large winning lottery ticket was sold in the village that has highlighted and dominated the village since news broke of the ticket in May.
