The Amelia Lady Barons fast pitch softball club enjoyed a very successful season. The team finished the season with an 18-2 record. Good hitting and pitching helped account for the outstanding record. Amelia outscored its opponents 213-30 and had two of the top eighth grade pitchers in the city, Shelby Engle and Anna Eggleston. There were seven team members who hit more than .300. Engle hit .594, Nikki Martin .551, Erika Bourque .537, Kymmy Simon .511, Jordan Kaiser .450, Eggleston .419, and Victoria Kelly .333. Most of the team attends Amelia Middle School, but also includes students at Edgewood, Glen Este, Kings, Lakota, Loveland, Mason, and Nagel. The team was sponsored by the girls’ parents who provided the uniforms and transportation. Tommy Martin was the head coach who was assisted by former Montreal Expo Rick Engle.
