Batavia Local School District voters will decide Aug. 5 on a 9.8 mill bond issue which would pay for the construction of two new schools.

If voters approve the bond, a middle school and an elementary school will be built at the site of the high school in Batavia Township. The two new schools would replace the elementary and middle schools currently located within the village.

If the two schools are moved out of the village, Batavia may face some difficult financial choices due to the loss of taxes paid on school employee salaries.

Batavia Local School District Treasurer Michael Ashmore says that $6.3 million in salaries are paid at the middle and elementary schools.
