Opposition to the Batavia Local School District’s proposed building project and bond levy has become organized.

Several Batavia residents have formed a community group to oppose the proposed levy.

Calling itself Preserve our Schools, the group has launched an educational campaign intended to convince district voters that the building project proposed by the board of education is ill-advised.

The school district has entered into an agreement with the Ohio School Facilities Commission to build a new elementary school, a new middle school, and to make renovations and additions to the existing high school. A master plan for the construction has been approved, but these plans depend on the passage of a 9.8 mill bond levy, which will appear on the Aug. 5 ballot.
