Dorsey second runner up in Homecoming Queen Pageant
Kelly Dorsey captured third place in the Ohio State Homecoming Queen Pageant held in Dayton April 12-13.
Dorsey, 18, who was invited to compete as a finalist in the annual competition after being crowned Clermont Northeastern High School Homecoming Queen last fall, was in the running to represent Ohio and advance to the America’s Homecoming Queen contest to be held this August.
Even though she did not win, she said that she was flattered and honored to be in the running against the the top 10 percent of all state homecoming queens.
“The pageant (which is not a beauty pageant, Dorsey stresses) was a wonderful learning experience that has inspired me to compete in other pageants in the future,” a proud Dorsey said.
Dorsey said that the pageant began with each finalist walking the runway while their ambitions and accomplishments were announced.
After the top 10 were announced, each girl was asked a final question. The 2007 queen then announced all of the runner-ups and the winner.
"We, the top 10, were told that it was one of the hardest and longest decisions the judges have ever made in the state level of the contest," Dorsey said. "I never thought I would make it to the top 10, let alone the top five. I am truly honored to have placed second runner-up. It is a big accomplishment."
