Lions honor sports stars with hall of fame selection

The New Richmond High School Sports Hall of Fame grew by four following the induction of the class of 2008. Jack Tucker (class of 1976) lettered in golf, basketball, and tennis. He was a Clermont County League all-star in each sport. He was captain of the basketball and tennis teams his senior year, the same year he led the Lions in scoring and free throw percentage on the hardwood.

Milford standout Alex Gulick receives gridiron honor

Alex Gulick, Milford High School senior and football standout, was recently honored with yet another honor. Gulick has been named as a McDonald’s Tri-State High School Football McScholar-Athlete.

Bethel-Tate Sports Hall honors its deserving stars

The Bethel-Tate High School Sports Hall of Fame recently increased its membership by seven with the induction of the class of 2008. Allene and Pauline Abbott (class of 1930), each played four years of varsity basketball. The Tigers were Clermont County League champions all four years (1927-30). The twin sisters totaled scoring 5,068 between them.

Austin Robert Dowers, 8

Austin Robert Dowers, 8, of Mt. Orab, died April 5, 2008. He was born on Sept. 20 in Cincinnati. Funeral services were held April 10 at the Bible Baptist Church in Mt. Orab.

Lily Mae Gooch, 89

Lily Mae Gooch, 89, of Fairfax, died March 31, 2008. She was a packer at the Crossett Company. Graveside funeral services were held April 3 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Orchard, Ky.

Cleo Phyllis Ledger, 61

Cleo Phyllis Ledger, 61, of Goshen Township, died March 28, 2008. She was a medical assistant at a doctor’s office. Graveside funeral services were held March 31 at the Goshen Cemetery.

Garrett R. Smith, 75

Garrett R. Smith, 75, of Goshen Township, died March 30, 2008. He worker for Krogers and was a Korean War Marine Corps veteran. Funeral services were held April 2 at the Evans Funeral Home in Goshen.

Judith Kirker Chaney, 71

Judith Kirker Chaney, 71, of Bethel, died April 1, 2008. Funeral services were held April 5 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia. Interment followed at the Pierce Township Cemetery.

Henry B. Burchnall, 79

Henry B. Burchnall, 79, of Milford, died April 1, 2008. He was an engineer at duPont Chemicals. Funeral services were held April 5 at the Evergreen Cemetery and the Evans Funeral Home is serving the needs of the family.

Vivian Mabelle Fish, 87

Vivian Mabelle Fish, 87, of Loveland, died April 3, 2008. She was a cook at Northwest Schools. She was preceded in death by husbands, Laverne Howell and Freeman Howell.
