County residents facing the costly repair of an aging or failing septic tank system may be in for a little help. The Clermont County Health District has secured grant funding from the county to use towards the renovation or replacement of such systems for residents in dire need of the updates.

“This is a program to assist people in repairing or replacing their malfunctioning sewage disposal system, or connect to a public sewer if that’s available,” said health district administrative assistant Donna Hart. “Applicants need to income and asset qualify, and they need to own their home. They need a deed with their name on it. People who do qualify need to submit an application, a copy of their deed, and a proof of income. One of our sanitarians will do an assessment on the property, and that is taken to a committee that determines who gets funds. We don’t get enough money to help everyone, so they prioritize so we can help as many people as we can with the funds.”

County residents who match the criteria, mainly those who own their homes and fall into the correct economic level, can get up to $10,000 to replace their system, or tap into an existing sewer system if a line is nearby.
