Applebaum to speak at Senior Services

Ladies’ hoops comes to the end of the road

Girls high school varsity basketball season is finished in Clermont County. The last of the teams was finally eliminated in sectional tournament action. Batavia (16 wins – 6 losses) was defeated by Taft 58-49 in Division II play that took place at Mason High School. After an 11-both first quarter, the Senators led 25-20 and 39-36 at the other stops.

Fewer Clermont wrestlers qualify for state than in years past

Clermont County will be represented by the fewest qualifiers for the state wrestling championship in many years. A total of just three made it out of their respective district tournaments. One Clermont County high school wrestler advanced to this weekend’s state championship tournament from the Goshen Division II District Tournament. Andrew Nealan, a New Richmond sophomore, finished fourth in the 160-pound weight class. The first four wrestlers in each weight class advance to compete at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University, Columbus. Competition will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Erma L. McCain, 65, of Milford, died Feb. 18, 2008. She worked in manufacturing. Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

Edward Milo Howell, 71

Edward Milo Howell, 71, of Milford, died Feb. 22, 2008. He was a machinist at Ford Motor Company and a Korean War Army veteran. Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at the Grace Baptist Church.

Margaret Elizabeth Goebel, 77

Margaret Elizabeth Goebel, 77, of Amelia, died Feb. 22, 2008. Funeral services were held Feb. 24 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia.

Mary Elizabeth Cates, 79

Mary Elizabeth Cates, 79, of Goshen, died Feb. 20, 2008. She was an accountant. Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at the Evans Funeral Home in Goshen.

David Gene Moore, 53

David Gene Moore, 53, of Milford, died Feb. 18, 2008. He worked in auto sales. Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at the Evans Funeral Home in Milford.

Marilyn Jane Martin, 59

Marilyn Jane Martin, 59, of Stonelick Township, died Feb. 21, 2008. She was an L.P.N. Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at the Evans Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Greenberry Cemetery in Jackson Township.

Timothy Gary Stropes, 59

Timothy Gary Stropes, 59, of Milford, died Feb. 22, 2008. He was a copier technician at Business Machine Repair and a Vietnam War Army veteran. Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.
