The Liberty Tax Service company in Milford is holding its grand opening event Jan. 15 and helping American soldiers call home.
The new Milford Liberty Tax Service franchise is a national premier partner with Cell Phones for Soldiers, an organization with a mission to provide our American men and women stationed and fighting overseas with calling cards to stay in touch with their families back here at home.
“The grand opening of our new location is also kicking off our Cell Phones for Soldiers campaign,” said franchise owner Jeff McVicker. “We want to get the word out in the Clermont community and spread awareness that this is a great, worthwhile program. We are hoping to collect a lot of old, broken, and used cell phones on that day.”
McVicker, himself a former Marine who has served overseas, said that all of the phones donated at the Jan. 15 event will then be converted to free phone minutes for our troops overseas.
The Cell Phones for Soldiers initiative was the brainchild of Massachusetts teenagers Brittany and Robbie Berquist. Concerned and disturbed after hearing news of an American soldier stationed in Iraq with a large phone bill (even having their own family members unable to afford calling home), the high-school siblings pulled their lunch and snack money together to start Cell Phones For Soldiers four years ago. They have already recruited hundreds of sponsors and cell phone companies to assist in their mission of having soldiers fighting overseas be able to call home.
McVicker said that over the years, the initiative has grown and that Liberty Tax Service has now become a national premier partner in the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization.
The Jan. 15 grand opening and campaign kickoff event, which begins at 8 a.m. at the store located at 1067 State Route 28, Suite 600, in Milford, will include tax professionals with free tax advice, refreshments, a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce, and a Marine Corps color guard.
"We will take anything - broken, old, and used cell phones - to help our brave men and women overseas get money to be able to call home," McVicker said. "We are excited that we can provide this opportunity to our community to help us out with this very worthwhile initiative. We hope to see everyone on the 15th."
The new Milford Liberty Tax Service franchise, which will provide 25 jobs to the people of Milford and Clermont County, will be one of the more than 2,450 offices operating in the U.S. and Canada. The company offers free tax advice and free checking of those self-prepared returns at each franchise location. In January of last year, Entrepreneur magazine ranked Liberty Tax Service as #17 on its Franchise 500 overall list of best franchises.
John Hewitt, CEO and founder of Liberty Tax Service, said that they are very excited to be expanding Liberty's operations into the Milford area.
"We pledge quality computerized tax preparation and superb customer service to the people of Milford," he said.
