The Union Township Police Department recently received re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA. This marks more than 14 years of accreditation that the department has enjoyed.

“Members of my staff and I attended the CALEA national law enforcement accreditation conference,” said Union Township Police Chief Terry Zinser. “The Union Township Police Department successfully received accreditation status for the fifth time in the past 14 years. In August, the police department was visited by a team of three assessors, three law enforcement professionals who did not know each other until the time that they met at our station. They reported favorably to the commission on our behalf, and the police department satisfied 460-plus standards.”

A department is accredited when it proves it can pass a series of standards designed to measure the professionalism and ability of the police department in question. Union Township was first accredited as a police department 14 years ago, and has maintained steady and constant accreditation since that time, said Chief Zinser.
