Residents of McLean Drive broke into applause at the Dec. 11 meeting of the Union Township Trustees after a potentially contentious zoning issue was resolved quickly.

A packed room of residents applauded and left early after it became apparent that the case was no longer to be presented to the trustees.

An applicant for a zoning change was scheduled to present a plan that would convert around 7.5 acres of land off McLean Drive into an L-shaped community. The plan would have effectively changed the zoning from 10,000 to 20,000 square foot lots into a variable structure district, which would have allowed more homes to be packed into the area in question.

“The nearby zoning is mostly residential in character,” said Union Township zoning directory Corey Wright. “Both sides of McLean Drive are zoned R1 at this time. I would characterize the bulk of McLean Drive as approximately one to one and a half units an acre, with densities varying up to two acres in size. There is a large multi-family complex to the east.”
