The Freedom House Art Gallery in New Richmond is now open to the public.

The new art gallery, which is housed in the historically significant and recently restored waterfront home of John George Rogers, will showcase local and county artists and crafts people.

The structure, which was built in 1818, was purchased and saved from demolition in September 2006 by New Richmond native and economic development expert Robert Lees.

Lees, who was born on Front Street and raised just up the street form the home, said that as a child, he and his friends would play along the riverbank behind the home. He even tended the back yard garden for the owners at the time.
