Milford, Clermont Northeastern, Batavia, Felicity male cagers unbeaten in pre-Christmas contests

Milford and Clermont Northeastern continue to tear through their competition. Batavia and Felicity have become recent additions to the number of unbeaten boys varsity basketball teams in Clermont County in recent action. The Eagles humbled Harrison’s Wildcats 65-49 in Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC-B) Buckeye Division action that took place on the winners’ hardwood. The Red and White was in control at each intermission.

Milford Christian announces varsity cage rosters and schedule for 2008 season

Milford Christian Academy’s (MCA) Bulldogs will soon be entering a big section of their varsity boys and girls basketball schedules. Dave Williamson, former Amelia High basketball standout from the class of 1978, has released the schedules and rosters of the varsity teams.

Glen Este, Batavia girl cagers continue to win; Milford’s E-Gals showing much improvement

The Clermont County distaff high school varsity basketball teams are somewhat successful seeking several victories. In recent competition, Glen Este and Batavia have not absorbed a setback and Bethel-Tate has added on a couple of victories. Milford continues to improve on its efforts of a year ago. The Trojans won a key inner-county Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye (FAVC-B) Division showdown over the visiting Milford Eagles 58-45. The game marks the first time the two have faced each other in a varsity girls cage FAVC contest. The Purple and White pulled steadily away with leads of 12-9, 33-15, and 42-27 at the end of each quarter.

Robert Allen Surber, 78

Robert Allen “Papa Rob” Surber, 78, of Milford, died Dec. 20, 2007. He was a custodian. Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at the Evans Funeral Home.

Betty Kay Meade, 52

Betty Kay (nee Benjamin) Meade, 52, of Felicity, died Dec. 17, 2007. Funeral services were held Dec. 20 at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home in Bethel. Interment followed at the Tate Township Cemetery.

Curry returns home from Iraq

Clermont County Marine Lance Corporal Benjamin Curry has returned home from the war zone in Iraq. The Clermont County Board of Commissioners, Sheriff Tim Rodenberg, and many distinguished veterans honored his service to the country in a welcome-home and recognition ceremony Dec. 12.

Clermont County Engineer’s Office is ready for winter weather

Clermont County currently has about 5,000 tons of salt on hand to deal with any snowy weather that may come our way, and reserves the capacity to get a whole lot more if necessary, said Clermont County Engineer’s Office deputy of operations Rob Alfieri.

New Richmond Boy Scout builds bus shelter for Eagle Project

New Richmond Boy Scout William Judd has designed and constructed a bus shelter in the New Richmond Rivertowne IGA grocery store parking lot. For his Eagle Scout project, Judd, 15, came up with the bus shelter idea after he heard that there had never been a similar type of shelter located in the IGA parking lot.

Batavia Township Trustees discuss homeless shelter plans

As plans proceed in the construction of the new Clermont County Homeless Shelter, the Batavia Township board of trustees is still seeking to finalize the lease agreement that will make the construction effort possible. Earlier, the township pledged to lease a plot of land to serve as the location for the new county homeless shelter. Details of the lease, however, still need to be worked out to give the project a green light.
