Three surprised staff members of the Felicity-Franklin School District received Patriot Awards at a Veteran’s Day Assembly Nov. 9.

Felicity-Franklin superintendent Bill Shepherd, assistant superintendent Glenn Moore, and seventh grade language arts teacher Heather Taulbee were recognized and given pins and appreciation certificates by the organization called the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves organization.

Sixth grade special education teacher and veteran Toby Lewin, who returned home from a year-long deployment to Iraq in May (where his mission was to act as a support unit to ensure the safe arrival and distribution of supplies from his naval base in Kuwait to Iraq), said that he nominated the three for the ESGR awards for many reasons.

“I nominated them because as employers, they have gone above and beyond the call of duty,” he said. “Their love and support for me and my family during this time of war has meant the world to me.”
