Clermont County celebrated the life of the beloved and accomplished James ‘Fred’ Herbert with a traditional firefighter funeral service and parade in New Richmond Nov. 7.

Herbert, who passed away at the age of 91 on Oct. 30, was a native of Clermont County who loved his family and the New Richmond community that he called home for most of his exemplary life.

“The funeral in New Richmond was so incredibly touching,” his daughter Patricia Irwin said. “He would have been so proud and amazed that the fire department and the village thought that much of him. He would have been so honored that his life was being celebrated in such a way.”

That amazing life started 91 years ago in New Richmond. Born and raised in the river town community, he graduated from New Richmond schools and for a time, entered pharmacology school before realizing that public service was his true calling.
