It was a day in the park with the pugs.

More than 300 yapping, costumed pugs – and one screeching pig – invaded Stonelick State Park as part of the first annual Pug Fair charity event Nov. 3.

Pug Fair 2007, which was attended by more than 300 people and their pet pugs, was an event designed not only to celebrate the popular breed of dog, but to also raise money for the Ohio Pug Rescue Organization and the Circle Tail Animal Rescue.

Mt. Lookout resident and event chairperson Armina Matthews, who has a pug named Gomez, said that she wanted to start a pug fair in Clermont County because there used to be a pug festival in Hyde Park; that festival outgrew the square in Hyde Park and and they stopped having them.
