The CNE Community Help Center will be permanently closing Nov. 16.

The Help Center, which opened with only a $5 contribution in 1983 and has helped close to 30,000 people in the past 25 years, is a very old and dilapidated building with two very large holes in the ceiling.

CNE Help Center trustee Carl Rayles, who owns and manages the building with Barb Bostic and Charles Bailey, said that the ceiling holes have made the structure unsafe and that the roof is in danger of collapse.

“We cannot afford to make the necessary repairs to stay open,” he said. “It is no longer a safe building and our finances are so low that we cannot possibly upkeep the building or buy a new one.”
