Administrators for the Boys and Girls Club of Clermont County are hoping to gain enough support over the next few months to begin work on opening their third county club in the near future.

The local section of the over 100-years-old organization began in New Richmond 11 years ago, and opened a second club, located in Amelia, two years ago.

The third club, if things go as planned, will be located in Batavia. Nancy Ball, representing the Boys and Girls Club of Clermont County, spoke with the Batavia Township Trustees about getting support to open the after-school program.

“It’s a safe place for kids to be when they’re not in school,” said Ball. “We have thousands of kids in the county who go home to an empty house at the end of the school day. Some parents don’t get home until five or six or seven o’clock. We know that, during those hours, there are lots of opportunities for kids to get into trouble. They can do things they ought not to be doing. Our clubs operate from 3-7 p.m. so they have somewhere to go.”
