A local man pleaded guilty Oct. 3 to an accidental death, accepting an 8-year mandatory term in prison and the permanent loss of his drivers license. Paul R. Daugherty, 38, accepted responsibility for his part in an drunken accident that killed a woman in April.

On April 30, in the early morning hours, Daugherty was leaving Hoppy’s Bar in Amelia. According to police reports, Melissa Robbers, 39, attempted to stop him from driving away drunk, but was instead accidentally run over by the car driven by Daugherty. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
