The Amelia Police Department has completed its annual taser training.

The four-hour re-qualification training session, which was led by certified Amelia police officer and trainer Shane Olson, took place at the Municipal Hall building Sept 18.

“Periodically, these devices are in the news,” said Amelia police Chief Jeff Sucher. “Our officers carry Tasers in an attempt to reduce firearms-related incidents, including deaths. We want all of our law enforcement officers to know how to properly and effectively use tasers if the need calls for it.”

The Amelia Police Department, which started using Tasers three years ago (they also carry pepper spray and wooden batons), have only had to subdue a total of three individuals through the use of Tasers in that three-year time period.
