After a long wait, the gardening gloves filled by former OSU Extension horticulturist Gary Gao have again been brought to life.

Cindy Burskey, who recently began service as the new horticulturalist for the Clermont County Extension, said that she looks forward to endorsing and enhancing the practice of agriculture and horticulture in the county.

“Agriculture is an important part of this county,” said Burskey. “Horticulture is just an extension of that, a focus on backyard gardening. It’s a hobby for a lot of people, but there are things you can take from it, like canning, or growing herbs for cooking. There are crafty things you can do, all things that bring enjoyment to your life. We’re losing that with younger generations, and it’s important to let kids see that and know what some of these common plants are, and understand what gardening is all about.”

Burskey said that she began to gain an appreciation for all things plant at an early age. Through the years, that interest was cultivated until it eventually became a career and life passion.
