Several dangling issues were tied up at the Aug. 27 Bethel Village Council meeting, including a county inspection of a building that had been described at the previous meeting as a clear and present danger to the residents of the village.

According to village business owner Russ Whitley, an abandoned structure on the west end of town behind the Sunoco station was in danger of collapse. According to Whitley, any jolt, including children playing inside it, could result in the complete collapse of the structure and result in the possible injury or death of village residents. According to the county, however, the structure is sound.

“As a follow up to last meeting, the vacant building next to Sunoco on East Plane Street, I did call the Clermont County Building Department and they did check it out,” said village administrator Michael Shiverski. “I have documentation that, although it’s unsightly, structurally it’s sound. I’ll get with the property owner this week, as I have about 16 or 17 buildings in the village to follow up on code related issues from the adoption of the property maintenance code.”
